You’ve just received your driver’s permit and you’re excited about becoming a road user.
The big one to take care of is getting your insurance in order. See the full guide here – Car Insurance & Accessories Guide 2018.
Once you’re legal, both permitted to drive and insured to drive, everything else is pretty straightforward. Here are the most important things for you to look at before you head out on the road –
- check the tyres – on a wet day, if you tires are really worn, your car can slide given the slightest provocation, so make sure there is a decent thread on your tires,
- working wipers – of critical importance to all drivers and is their visibility, and ability to see out of their vehicle. On a wet day, this can be severely compromised. Make sure your wipers work to stay safe on the road,
- brakes – your brakes need to be good. This is so obvious, that it is not necessary to go into much detail here, just check your brakes,
- headlights – again coming back to visibility, and your ability to see and be seen. Please don’t drive a car when the headlights don’t work. This is an accident waiting to happen.
